Help & Advice

Fitting draught excluders, fixed or folding types to a wooden door

All our draught excluders suit our large wooden door range, you simply need to know which one is best for your circumstances and choose wisely, always take into consideration whether it needs to comply with any disability requirements or whether it will be exposed to severe weather.

1. Advice is offered on the basis that you have already fitted a wooden door and on the basis, you understand that there are many different types of weather bars available.

2. There are two parts to the Exitex threshold draught excluder, one part that gets fixed to the floor or step, the other drip section gets fixed to the front of the door at the lowest point possible to allow it to interlock with the floor fitted part.

3. Take the floor section of the excluder and after measuring between the frame jambs cut it to this exact size, now cut the vertical legs of the timber stops, this is the timber that the door actual hits against when closed, chisel out just enough of those legs to the excluder shape to allow the draught excluder to fit the shape.

4. Please be aware that you may have to remove the door and cut the bottom of the door to the correct height to suit the rubber seal which forms part of the Exitex excluder if your door has not had this type of excluder fitted previously

5. If all of the above has been correctly completed, take a masonry drill bit and drill through the concrete step at the correct position to allow the excluder to be secured to the floor with rawl plugs or similar, there is no real need to drill anything if it is a timber floor or sill, just use the correct screws.

6. The top (drip) section of the excluder should now be cut to width by measuring the area between the vertical door stops which for part of the frame and were mentioned in “3” above.

7. Take the top part (the drip section) of the excluder with the door in the closed position and carefully align the drip so that you can clearly see how the drip and the previously fitted floor section should interlock together.

8. Fit one side of the drip loosely with a screw at one end using the supplier machined screw holes and screws, gently offer up the drip by levelling it with the lower part of the excluder and now fix the drip using the screw holes on the opposite end of the drip, align it over the width and firmly fix it in place, open and close the door to make sure the excluder is in the correct position.
