Advice on how to fit a sliding door;
The measuring for sliding doors is very much the same as hinged doors which has been covered in "How to fit an Internal door" but this is one fitting job that should be left for the specialist to do, a good carpenter or joiner.
The issue with fitting a sliding door is that you will probably have to change the timber door stops that the hinged door closed against to frame plates in order to allow the door to overlap the frame equally at each side and the top.
After this work has been done you will need to allow for new facing plates with the lintol being made twice the width that it was to ensure you can fit the sliding door track too.
Please be aware that there are many types of sliding track on the market but we have tended to use the "Henderson Flyaside Panther" which will require a groove to be routered into the full width of the underside of the bottom rail of the door.
The above are just a few points to note if you intend to fit a sliding door, one important consideration is not to choose a door which has projecting facings on the face of the door.
