What is the difference between pairmaker and rebated doors? 

Pairmaker doors are two single doors joined together with a “pairmaker” strip to create a pair. This system lets you decide which door opens first and which way they swing, giving you more flexibility in how the doors are fitted.

In joinery, a “rebate” means one edge of the door is cut so the two doors can overlap neatly when closed. With rebated French doors, one door is the primary and the other the secondary, meaning you’ll usually open one first. These can be fitted to open outwards or inwards.

In short: pairmaker doors give you flexibility at installation, while rebated doors provide a more traditional, interlocking finish between the two doors.
