Our Range of Double Doors

Double doors, also known as French doors, refer to two doors combined to form a single unit.

Our huge range of internal double door sets and external double doors includes French doors, room dividers, folding doors, bespoke door pairs, and internal bifold doors. Let’s get a clearer picture of what our products have to offer your home.

Variety of Double Door Styles

Our double doors come in several eye-catching styles to ensure you find the best match for your interior. Industrial and loft-style doors feature strong black profiles, large glass panes, and clean panels for an urban, industrial feel.

For a modern touch, the Contemporary and V-Line Grooved designs offer minimalist lines, recessed grooves, or flush surfaces with subtle detailing. These are ideal for corridors, open-plan areas, or where you want the doors to blend into the interior.

Some other prominent styles in our collection include Cottage, Shaker, and 1930s style doors, which come in various finishes and colours.

Finishes

When it comes to our double door finishes, we aim for flexibility in both style and function:

  • White primed or painted finishes let you customise colour later and match walls or furniture.

  • Prefinished oak, walnut, or hemlock options provide a ready-to-install, clear look with natural grain and warmth.

  • Laminate doors provide high-quality, durable, and easy-to-clean surfaces to protect against damage.

  • Premium-primed: this will be the finish of many of our bespoke door pairs. They only need a final coat of paint before they are ready to hang, and the colours available are: black, light grey, dark grey, Sage Sky, Heather Blue, and the iconic British Pillar Box Red. The finish is so good you may be tempted to hang them as they are, but a final coat of paint is required.

Double Door Brands

Direct Doors stock several signature ranges, including:

  • Handmade Eco-Urban®: This range combines industrial design with sustainable manufacturing practices, utilising natural wood sourced from certified suppliers.

  • DD Urban Lite® Double Slimline: These doors offer a more lightweight and versatile version of the Eco-Urban style. They’re ideal for dividing spaces while keeping interiors bright and open.

  • DD V-Line® Flush: Defined by subtle grooved designs, this line helps you create a refined look that adds depth and character to contemporary homes.

We also supply other brands, including LPD, Deanta, JB Kind, and NEP. Each of these has its own strengths, from richer wood veneers and classic panel designs to more affordable surfaces and finishes.

Guide to Double Doors Installation

Here are some key factors to consider during the installation process:

Door Sizes

All door pair sizes are "overall" for the pair and are not for each door leaf. Our standard range of interior double doors is available in a wide variety of sizes.

Double doors are also sold as "Room Dividers," which means that, in addition to the two doors, you also get the frame, side glass or panels. The sizes of the standard "Room Dividers" are 1246mm, 1558mm, 1904mm, 2478mm, and 2494mm. We also sell Door and Frame Sets, which only include frames.

However, not all external double doors are available in all these sizes; the range of timber types is confined to Oak, Hardwood, Pine, and white primed softwood. We provide internal double doors in solid composite wood, with standard-size internal door pairs being mostly wood veneer.

Please note that Direct Doors doesn’t offer installation services.

Rebates & Pairmakers

When you buy double doors, you don’t have to be restricted to specific sizes. You can select any two standard door sizes and combine them to form a pair. You then have the choice of:

  • Adding a rebate: This involves cutting the meeting edges of the doors so that they interlock when closed. Half the "thickness" of the door is channelled out to allow the doors to interlock by 12mm. Machining a rebate reduces the overall width of the door by 12mm, but adding a Pairmaker rebate, which is essentially a "T" shape, will add 12mm to the overall width of two single doors.

  • Adding a pairmaker: If you have the correct space within your frame, you can add a "pairmaker" (a "T" shape section) from the drop-down option in any pairmaker door offering or individually within our Joinery section on this site. The interior pairmaker adds 12mm to the width of the doors and 15mm to the external door pairs.

Alternatively, you can allow the doors to meet in the middle with a minimum amount of space.

Handles & Swing Direction

Most of our lifestyle images feature a pair of handles on both doors, but it’s important to note that some handles are "unsprung" and rely on the lock/latch mechanism to keep the lever part of the handle level. As such, you should avoid fitting any unsprung handle to the "slave" door at any time.

Additionally, all our internal double doors can be set to open towards or away from you during installation.

Wall Space

Depending on the opening within the wall that you have to work with, you may require a side screen on the left, the right, or both sides of the doors.

The other option is to consider using doors from our Multifold range, which offers numerous folding door alternatives and various sizes for a practical fit.

Folding Door Sets help prevent heat loss, and their internal versions are also ideal for cutting down noise between rooms if you have an open-plan arrangement.

FAQs on Internal Double Doors

Let’s clear up any other queries you may have about our double doors for your home:

What Are the Advantages of Double Doors?

Double doors are one of the best ways to close off one room from another. Some benefits they bring to your home include:

  • Elevated aesthetic: Double doors make a room feel more spacious and inviting, adding a sense of luxury and contemporary sophistication.

  • Flexible room division: You can slide them wide to connect rooms for an open-plan feel, or close them to create privacy when needed.

  • Maximise natural light: Glazed options allow daylight to flow between rooms, brightening darker areas without the need for extra lighting.

  • Saving space: Sliding double doors remove the need for swinging clearance, ensuring the safety of anyone passing by.

  • Added property value: Stylish, functional doors can enhance the overall appeal and increase the resale value of your home.

Please don’t arrange any tradesmen until the goods have arrived, been checked over for damage, and are suitable for installation as you intended. Courier delays due to illness, traffic issues, or product damage can also impact your arrangements. Wood products will have a naturally occurring grain, which will vary regardless of veneer type. This is the beauty of wood. We cannot be held liable for any consequential costs should you arrange an early installation, the courier be delayed or the grain be wavy/straight and not to your liking.
