These ball handles are always supplied as pairs and are classed Ball type handles, they provide a different finish from the usual style of handle.
There are many different styles of new handles, the first is a fairly traditional Ice Bubble style, they can be used on any Interior door that has a middle rail or similar but are not suitable for Bifold doors.
The second handle above is a bolt through type handle suitable for most exterior door but again with the probable exception of folding doors or pvc doors.
The top handles are normally used with a latch which is ideally 95mm or in the case of the 2nd handle a Yale type lock combined for security with a mortice dead lock.
Please remember that all sizes for locks or latches are the overall length/depth, the actual "Spindle/Keyhole" is some 15/20mm less than this, the spindle is the part of the handle that goes through from one side of the door to the other and connects the handles together.
There are other types of finishes for locks such as Electro Brass, where I have mentioned Nickel Plated or Electro Brass I am talking about the forend, the forend is the part of the lock that remains visible on the edge of the door.
There are deeper locks available but these are generally fitted in traditional Georgian properties where the Horizontal style of mortice lock is fitted to the middle rail and then fitted with ball handles and seperate keyhole covers.
