Interior Doors - A Brief History and Data

DX pine door at a great price

I have tried in vain to discover when interior doors first appeared in any buildings, I was going to say “when did they first make an entrance” but that  would be a really bad joke.

It seems that the Romans and other civilizations used a Curtain or Drape over any interior doorway, the Curtain or Drape was sometimes decorated depending on the status of the inhabitants, although I have only mentioned two options there was a third, a tapestry which you can well imagine was only ever going to be found in those buildings which were occupied by someone important and very probably rich.

Interior doors are now generally available as “flush”, “Panel” or “Glazed” versions and can be supplied fully finished (decorated) or unfinished, they are also available in almost any veneer including Ash, Beech, Cherry, Oak and Walnut to name but a few.

The range of Interior doors which are available as fire rated doors has also grown in recent times to offer a choice of 30 minute and 60 minute ratings, the latter is used very rarely in houses but has been used especially when the house has an integral garage.

The sizes of interior pine doors has also grown, DirectDoors.com offer a huge range of sizes depending on the type of veneer and style of door, the various sizes of Interior doors includes......

Sizes in inches, 78x24, 78x27, 78x30, 78x33, 80x32 in (1.3/8”) 35mm and sometimes 40mm but always 44mm for the 30 minute fire door.

Then the Metric sizes are 2040x526mm, 2040x626mm, 2040x726mm, 2040x826mm and sometimes the 2040x926mm size is also available, all metric doors are 40mm thick as standard but they are also 44mm thick for the 30 minute fire rated equivalents.

The huge range of interior doors available at DirectDoors.com is second to none.
