How do I maintain unfinished hardwood doors?

Properly finishing your wood is critical to prolonging the lifespan of your external door. While it’s a task often overlooked, regular maintenance is crucial for ensuring the durability and long-term protection of your investment.

Before installation, we recommend varnishing or painting your new outside door on all faces and edges to avoid any further issues.

Also consider that, even if it’s not actually raining, untreated external timber doors will still soak up the air’s moisture. This can compromise the veneer, resulting in the wood swelling and sticking to the frame.

Do you offer fire-rated external doors?

Yes. Fire safety is a primary concern for many of our customers, and installing external fire doors can be a requirement for landlords and business owners. As part of our range, we supply a small selection of half-hour (FD30) fire-rated doors. 

For environmentally conscious customers, we can also confirm which of our wooden exterior doors are FSC-certified. This certification guarantees a safe chain of custody and controlled sourcing of materials used to manufacture these doors.

Most outside doors are available in a range of sizes, including:

What should I consider when measuring and fitting my exterior doors?

Instead of measuring the existing door size, measure the space between the frame legs and the sill and lintel. Whichever external door you opt for, make sure you fit a minimum of 3 good-quality hinges. Some of the heavier oak doors may benefit from 4 hinges due to the size and weight.
