Here’s what to expect from our collection of internal shaker-style doors.

Durable Door Construction

Every double door in this collection is built to last, using engineered cores that protect the quiet and comfort of your home. We provide two distinct construction types to ensure your new doors handle the daily demands of busy rooms:

• Solid core: Offers a heavy, premium feel with superior sound reduction and thermal performance.

• Semi-solid core: Provides a lighter, budget-friendly alternative without compromising on the high-end shaker aesthetic.

Diverse Finishes

Our variety of shaker double door surfaces ensures a seamless fit with any existing décor. Choose a finish that fits your lifestyle and elevates the look of your living space:

• Prefinished internal shaker doors are factory-treated and ready to hang, saving you significant time and mess on-site.

• Unfinished shaker-style doors are perfectly sanded and prepared for you to apply a custom paint, stain or oil.

Discover diverse door face designs and make the perfect pick for your interior vision:

• Oak: Offers a timeless, natural grain that adds warmth and organic texture to any space.

• Painted: Provides a smooth, uniform colour finish, including clean, neutral white and grey options.

• Primed: Pre-coated for an ideal bonding surface, making it easy to achieve a high-quality DIY paint finish.

• Walnut: Delivers a rich, dark timber aesthetic that brings a sophisticated, high-end feel to your home.

Standard & Bespoke Sizes

Our shaker-style double doors are available in standard sizes ranging from 1981 mm x 1066 mm to 2040 mm x 1852 mm. These dimensions cover the overall width and height of the door pair, combining both halves.

However, you aren't restricted to these preset door pairs. You can combine any two standard doors to fit your opening by choosing how they meet:

• Machining a rebate involves carving a channel into the edges of the door so they interlock.

• Attaching a rebate strip adds a timber bead, creating a flush overlap.

• A square meeting allows the doors to sit side by side with a minimal gap.

Working with unique dimensions? Whatever you want, we can do it! Our bespoke expertise provides made-to-measure solutions to ensure a perfect fit for your space. These custom options are built to your exact requirements in a variety of timbers and finishes.

Internal Shaker Door Styles

Our versatile range offers three distinct shaker double door designs that complement your interior architecture while improving flow between rooms:

• Flush double shaker doors provide ultimate simplicity with a smooth, flat surface that fits perfectly in minimalist or ultra-modern settings.

• Panelled internal shaker doors are defined by their recessed panels, adding depth and traditional character to your hallway or lounge.

• Glazed shaker-style doors share natural light between adjacent rooms, helping dark spaces feel brighter and more connected.

Glazing Options

Elevate your interior space with quality glazing choices that create an open, airy feel throughout your home:

• Clear: Maximises visibility and light flow, maintaining a bright, connected look between rooms.

• Bevelled: Features angled glass edges that catch the light, suiting more traditional panel-style shaker doors.

• Frosted: Offers total privacy without losing the benefit of soft, diffused natural light.

How do I calculate the total width of a pair of doors?

When creating a custom set by combining two individual doors, the math changes based on your joining method. Use these specialist calculations to ensure perfect open/close functionality:

• Machined rebate: Because the edges interlock by 12 mm, your overall width is the sum of the two doors minus 12 mm.

• Double door pairmaker: Found in our joinery section, this T-piece is fixed to the slave door. Adding an internal pairmaker increases the total “tight” width of your two doors by 10mm or 12 mm, depending on the pairmaker chosen.

• Square meeting: The width is simply the sum of both doors plus a 2-3 mm clearance gap.

To ensure your door pairs also fit the depth of your frame, the thickness is determined by the door size selected:

• 35 mm doors come in standard UK imperial sizes.

• 40 mm doors are manufactured in metric sizes.

This means the thickness isn’t selected separately, but follows the size required for your opening.

Pairmaker finishes vary by door type:

• White doors include a white primed pairmaker.

• Black doors include a black premium primed pairmaker.

• Oak doors are available with an unfinished or prefinished pairmaker.

Note: Prefinished oak pairmakers may require further finishing to match the door. Pairmakers are not available for walnut, laminated, or most coloured doors.

What should I consider before installing shaker-style double doors?

As we do not offer installations, we focus on providing the specialist knowledge you need to get the DIY job done right. Follow these steps to simplify installation:

1. Inspection and dry assembly: Examine your doors immediately upon delivery. We also advise a “dry assembly” check, positioning the doors in the opening without fixings, to verify their fit and function before any work begins.

2. Trimming for a perfect fit: Standard doors feature solid lippings that allow trimming, but the allowance varies by supplier (typically around 4–18 mm), meaning total trim capacity can differ depending on the door selected. For shaker-style fire doors, the trimming allowance is slightly reduced to 30 mm overall.

3. Hardware compatibility: Selecting the right door handles is vital. Avoid fitting unsprung handles to the slave door, as these rely on a latch mechanism to stay level, which the slave door lacks.

4. Installing the door pairmaker: If your project requires a pairmaker, ensure it is fitted to the slave door to create a seamless meeting point.

How do I maintain internal shaker doors?

Follow these specialist steps to ensure your doors truly stand the test of time:

1. Storage and timing: Store your doors flat on a dry, level surface in your home. Never bring them into a building with fresh plaster, as the moisture can cause the timber to warp or swell. Waiting until all "wet trades" are finished will protect the timber from moisture damage.

2. Acclimatisation: Let your doors rest in their intended room for at least 7 days before hanging. Gradually increase the temperature within this timeframe to allow the wood to settle, ensuring long-term quality.

3. Follow the 3-coat rule: Apply three coats of a high-quality internal wood finish to unfinished doors. Maintain the functionality of prefinished doors by treating any cut-outs made for hinges or locks.

4. Routine care: Keep the recessed shaker lines sharp and clean by wiping dust from the grooves with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. This simple step preserves the premium look of your investment.
