Machined rebate: Because the edges interlock by 12 mm, your overall width is the sum of the two doors minus 12 mm.
Double door pairmaker: Found in our joinery section, this T-piece is fixed to the slave door. Adding an internal pairmaker increases the total “tight” width of your two doors by 10mm or 12 mm, depending on the pairmaker chosen.
Square meeting: The width is simply the sum of both doors plus a 2-3 mm clearance gap.
To ensure your door pairs also fit the depth of your frame, the thickness is determined by the door size selected:
35 mm doors come instandard UK imperial sizes.
40 mm doors are manufactured in metric sizes.
This means the thickness isn’t selected separately, but follows the size required for your opening.
Pairmaker finishes vary by door type:
White doors include a white primed pairmaker.
Black doors include a black premium primed pairmaker.
Oak doors are available with an unfinished or prefinished pairmaker.
Note:Prefinished oak pairmakers may require further finishing to match the door. Pairmakers are not available for walnut, laminated, or most coloured doors.

For shaker-style fire doors, the trimming allowance is slightly reduced to 30 mm overall.
Hardware compatibility: Selecting the right door handles is vital. Avoid fitting unsprung handles to the slave door, as these rely on a latch mechanism to stay level, which the slave door lacks.
Installing the door pairmaker: If your project requires a pairmaker, ensure it is fitted to the slave door to create a seamless meeting point.
How do I maintain internal shaker doors?

Storage and timing: Store your doors flat on a dry, level surface in your home. Never bring them into a building with fresh plaster, as the moisture can cause the timber to warp or swell. Waiting until all "wet trades" are finished will protect the timber from moisture damage.

Follow the 3-coat rule: Apply three coats of a high-quality internal wood finish to unfinished doors. Maintain the functionality of prefinished doors by treating any cut-outs made for hinges or locks.
Routine care: Keep the recessed shaker lines sharp and clean by wiping dust from the grooves with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. This simple step preserves the premium look of your investment.
