The pine is a humble tree, fairly quick growing and a timber that can be beuatifully grained, you would think that this tree would be safe and to be fair it is not endangered BUT there have been a number of issues recently reported in the Sandbanks area of the Uk where some older and therefore larger trees have been deliberately killed to allow more expensive construction developments to take place, a sad reflection of some peoples attitude, money talks.
The pines were ringbarked, this is a process that involves the cutting away of the bark at the base of the tree to expose the delicate cambium layer where the tree growth takes place, a herbicide was also scattered around the foot of some of the pines.
