Our Range of External French Doors

Whether you require Georgian French, Aluminium French, or unglazed door pairs, we have extensive ranges for you to peruse. Impress your guests and family alike with a stunning external French door for your home.

Our timeless French door range offers more natural light into your home, creating an open, airy space. Let’s take an in-depth look at our French door collection:

Personalised Colour & Finish Options

Direct Doors offers a selection of seven premium colour options for our made-to-measure external French doors. These French door exterior colours are available in a premium primed finish, providing a perfect base for your chosen top coat:

  • Shadow Black

  • Cloud White

  • Mist Grey

  • Stormy Grey

  • Pillar Box Red

  • Sage Sky

  • Heather Blue

Our French door range is supplied with premium primed doors and includes a topcoat finish for the full door to be prefinished on-site.

Standard & Bespoke Sizes

Direct Doors’ external French doors are available in a selection of standard sizes to suit common openings, including:

  • 1981 x 915mm

  • 1981 x 1168mm

We also supply patio French door sets in the usual standard brickwork opening height sizes of 2090mm and in various widths of door leaves. For homes that require a tailored fit, bespoke made-to-measure options are also available, ensuring your French patio doors perfectly match your space and design requirements.

Please note that all French door pair sizes are "overall" for the pair; they are not for each door leaf. When you buy a "set", it also includes the frame, locks, and hinges.

Door Face: Quality Timber Finishes

Our range features premium timber finishes to complement both traditional and contemporary styles at affordable prices:

  • Hemlock: A lighter material that creates a subtle, classic look, which you can stain or paint to your preference.

  • Aluminium: Direct Doors’ aluminium (AluVu) French door sets deliver a sleek, modern alternative with excellent durability.

Because veneered versions tend to delaminate without proper care, we exclusively use solid laminated timber.

Multiple Glazing Options

Direct Doors’ French door range is available with a variety of glazing choices, from fully glazed panels to clear glass:

  • Clear Glass: Allows more natural light in and creates a bright, open feel. Some designs also include optional side panels to expand the glazed area and let in more light.

  • Double Glazing: Double-glazed French doors work as a natural insulator, serving as a cost-effective way to enhance energy efficiency while reducing noise.

FAQs about our Exterior French Doors

Before purchasing French doors for your living space, consider the following common questions.

What’s the Difference between French Doors and Bifold Doors?

French doors typically feature two full-height hinged or casement-style panels that swing open or slide. They often feature large glazed areas (single, double or triple glazing) and their classic design is suitable for both indoor and outdoor spaces.

In contrast, bifold doors incorporate multiple hinged panels that fold and slide along tracks. Offering modern functionality, they are ideal for very wide openings, allowing maximum fresh air into your home.

Are French Double Doors Energy Efficient?

Yes. Many well-designed French double doors are highly energy-efficient, depending on the materials, glazing, and thermal breaks used.

For example, Direct Doors’ AluVu external French patio door sets include a thermal break in their aluminium profile to reduce heat transfer. These double French doors use toughened low-E double-glazed units to obtain a U-Value of 1.2 W/m²K and improve home security.

Do Your External French Doors Have a Guarantee?

Yes, all of our external French doors come with a guarantee. However, the exact terms vary by product. Most French doors come with a 12-month guarantee, assuming you follow the correct decoration and maintenance practices.

French Door products must be fully decorated, including all edges and cut-outs, prior to final installation to prevent the guarantee from being affected. Please note that all “special orders” can’t be refunded or cancelled.

For full details, please refer to each product page and consult our Terms & Conditions.

Please don’t arrange any tradesmen until the goods have arrived, been checked over for damage, and are suitable for installation as you intended. Courier delays due to illness, traffic issues or product damage can also impact your arrangements. Wood products will have a naturally occurring grain, which will vary regardless of veneer type. This is the beauty of wood. We cannot be held liable for any consequential costs should you arrange an early installation, the courier be delayed or the grain be wavy/straight and not to your liking.
